Textile printing is a decorative art form used for both interior decoration and clothing. The varieties of motif often reflect a given period’s collective taste and zeitgeist. Up until the end of the eighteenth century, designs still derived mainly from the original Indian floral motifs, but the industrial revolution signaled major changes to this. A great diversity can also be seen in contemporary fashion, ever-dependent on trends.Various designers and fashion houses have even made prints their trademark, including Emilio Pucci, Dries Van Noten, Hermès and Leonard.
This publication illustrates different aspects and phases concerning the use of textile motifs and has been produced in association with the exhibition of the same name at the Hasselt Fashion Museum.
