Rineke Dijkstra. The Ones And The Many

In her large photographs and films, Dutch artist Rineke Dijkstra manages to capture people who have stopped somewhere - in a park, on a beach, at a party, in life - so that they are present to an astonishing degree, right there in that very moment. Rineke Dijkstra (b. 1959) is typically interested in transitions, the stages of life when we are on the way to becoming ourselves plus something else. Adolecents who stand somewhat insecure in swimsuits on the beach. The dancer who is fully immersed in music at a club. The young person who has put on a military uniform. The woman who has just given birth. . .There are no spectacular incidents with Dijkstra, but precisely for that reason, when we see her images, we can relive lost moments and exchange glances with our own history: We also encounter ourselves here! This exhibition is the first specific presentation of Dijkstras artwork in a Scandinavian context
