Morocco and the Netherlands have a shared history that goes back as far as the seventeenth century. In the past four hundred years their relationship has had its ups and downs. Even today Dutch and Moroccan people alternate between fear and distrust on the one hand, hope and solidarity on the other. In this book over twenty-five authors shed light on several different aspects of society, economy, and culture as well as on relations between the two countries. The authors focus on the tensions between tradition and modernity, dealing with subjects such as: Moroccan family law, Morocco and the European Union, the Berber struggle, migration and equal citizenship, young Moroccans in the Netherlands, gender education in Morocco, literature, architecture, and language and identity.
