For many of Antwerp's inhabitants, the Linkeroever is unknown territory. From the banks of the Scheldt, the opposite side of the river appears as a series of high-rises hovering over a green strip. City architect Christian Rapp launched an international ideas competition in 2016, with the ambition to address the Linkeroever as an object of design research and to encourage debate on the importance of this "separate" part of the city for the whole of Antwerp. The competition sought images that offer a vision of the future of the city, now published in a book which takes this initiative as a starting point for examining larger questions about the state of urban development and design today.
